A festive afternoon with my family that propelled us into the holidays.
Last weekend we bundled up + headed to the englewood holiday express. Unbeknownst to me, this neighborhood park has a real train that runs throughout the summer. Yet, they turned the park into a winter festival with tons of holiday decor, twinkling lights + lots of christmas music. This event is geared totally for families and included holiday crafts, a visit with santa, roasting s’mores + of course, unlimited train rides.
Cohen was all about the train which was adorned with colorful christmas lights. The train conductor even dressed up as a little elf with pointy ears. It was magical to see cohen’s face light up when the train pulled into the station. As we climbed aboard, he was a bit hesitant as the only train he had previously been on was the light rail or the train inside the airport which were both enclosed. However, I do not think we had even pulled out of the station before he had an ear-to-ear smile across his face.
We warmed up with some hot cocoa + spiked cider before our visit with santa. Blake was all about it + could not quit smiling or giggling in santa’s arms. However, cohen was a bit hysterical + we walked away quickly. This was similar to his encounter with santa last year. Ha! Maybe next year?!?!
It’s events like these that make me so excited for the holidays + incredibly grateful for our close family. Everyone was so excited to experience it through the kids’ eyes which I know, will only become more enjoyable as they get a bit older. I think this event will become part of our annual holiday traditions moving forward. And, I am sure we will be making a future visit for another ride on that train next summer too!
