One of my favorite fall activities is our annual visit to the pumpkin festival. This year, blake got to join in on the fun, creating new family memories + traditions.
For the past 13 years, we have made a family trip to the chatfield reservoir pumpkin festival. Years ago, it was a grass-roots event with a couple vendors, a few hundred guests and of course, a beautiful pumpkin patch. We would tromp through the endless rows of pumpkins, searching for the perfect one to take home. Each year, the festival grew a bit, increasing the attendance + its appeal. Well, word has definitely spread about our little festival because this year, it was down-right packed.
Of course it was still endless fun for our family, there were just another 7,000 people enjoying the fun too. We made our way to the pumpkin patch after getting all 13 of us together inside. Our nieces are incredible with cohen + he is entranced by them every time we get together. They helped him find the best pumpkin, along with the tiniest pumpkin for blake. She didn’t seem too interested but cohen made sure to show it to her over + over again as she sat in her carseat.
Once everyone had picked their pumpkins, we made our way to a shady spot to relax. As we sat in the grass, with the the late fall warmth on our shoulders, I could not help but think back on the years of memories at this event. Peyton was just a little girl when we made our first visit. Then, a few years later, makenzie + kamryn were practically the same age as cohen + blake are now. I love how this one event holds so many special moments, traditions + love by our family. I’ll have to dig through my files + see if I can find our annual family photo from each year. I think it would be so fun to see our progression over the last 13 years.
While I cannot speak for everyone, my highlight of the day was cohen on the tractor. We took a hayride, pulled by a giant tractor back to the parking lot which he loved. Cohen was so excited to jump on board, see the tractor’s big tires + inform us (over + over!) how loud it was. We loaded up our cars with all our pumpkins + agreed that this year’s pumpkin festival, was another great success.
