Back in june I shared this post, talking about ryan and I’s big plans on renovating our backyard. We had been in our house for about 6 months and really wanted to add a bit of ambiance, some greenery and a pergola to the space for us to enjoy all summer long. Well, it is now the beginning of september and I finally have some photos of our progress. We did not knock-out every item from our inspiration board but we are both quite happy with the progression thus far and have been able to host quite a few backyard get-togethers over the summer months.
As a reminder, here is a list of what we wanted to accomplish in our backyard renovation…
– create both an entertaining and dining area
– bring shade to the patio
– install ambiant lighting to enjoy once the sun goes down
– establish privacy from our neighbors
– plant lots of lush greenery and some hints of color
– bring a modern and streamlined feel to the overall space
And here is where we are at presently, with some before and after photos.
With the addition of a 12×14′ cedar pergola, we were able to define the patio space. We also bought some awesome commercial-grade outdoor string lights which bring the perfect glow to our patio once the sun goes down.
I truly wanted to create a defined dining area on the patio and while there is room to have both a lounging and dining space, we did not 100% get this aspect completed. We bought a new navy umbrella to accompany our existing high-top table but we are still in the search for the perfect patio chairs. However, I do love how the umbrella ties into the outdoor rug we added earlier in the year.
A slightly new furniture layout makes the most of our new space and I cannot get over how green and lush everything is looking. As our plants continue to grow larger and we add a couple more bushes, I feel like the hard edges will fade away and our backyard will truly feel like an oasis.
