A new year, a new + improved nighttime routine. I’m making conscious choices to improve my physical + mental state before putting my head on my pillow each night.
My normal evening routine could be described as a sprint to the finish line or even, exhausting. Why you might ask? Well, as much as I absolutely love my 2 babes, they require a lot in the few hours before 8pm. Often times after dinner, baths + bedtime routines, there is not much energy left in my tank. Some nights I will watch a show with my husband on the couch or even just zone out on my phone before ‘calling it’ + crawling into bed.
I typically wash my face before bed but if I fall asleep on the couch or get too tired, my self care pretty much goes out the window. Yet, I have wanted to make a cognizant effort to improve my nightly routine for a while. My hopes were to improve how I winded down before going to bed, in addition to, instituting a more methodical approach to my skin.
So, over the last few weeks, I have implemented a few new elements to my bedtime routine. First, I wash my face + moisturize as soon as both blake + cohen are down. I started using VIIcode oxygen eye cream after I cleanse + remove my makeup. It might sound crazy but I am more diligent about removing my makeup + moisturizing my skin properly if I don’t procrastinate. The best part, I can totally see a difference in the fine lines and dark circles under my eyes.
Secondly, I have been experimenting with changing how I wind-down. From meditation to reading + even just sitting down to edit pictures or a blog post, I am trying to not just zone-out in front of a device. Intentional electronics, while still are technology, feel like I am doing something positive with an end result. Finally, tea. I used to be a big tea or decaf coffee drinker at night but got into a wine-rut during the holidays. A glass of wine at dinner turned into another (or 2!) on the couch. Another reason I was falling asleep 10 minutes into tv show. So, this small change still feels relaxing, like my glass of wine, but without the sluggish side effects.
I would love to know what you do to help wind down each night. Also, what is your bedtime routine like in comparison to mine? Please share as I am still trying to perfect my routine.
