Going to the movies is one of my most favorite things to do. Now, with a toddler, it is a true treat to get to the theatre. Ryan + I have snuck away for a couple day-dates but more often than not, our film watching often happens after cohen goes to bed.

Side note, watching a movie… or anything that requires your full (or even semi) attention is practically impossible with a toddler. Thank goodness for dvr + the ‘pause’ button. If we really want to enjoy a tv show or movie, it is best to start after cohen’s bedtime.

Alright, back to films. February brings a lot of excitement, especially for movie lovers. Why you might ask? Well, it is award season and there is endless hype around the best films + performances of the year. For the past several years, a group of girlfriends + I try to see as many films from the academy awards nominations. This year is no different + I have been busy watching as many as I can. The 89th annual academy awards is on february 26th and I still have a few I really want to watch before the big show.

Typically the most-hyped category of the academy awards is best picture. Below is a list of the nominations along with an * on the films I have personally seen. If you want to watch any of the trailers, just click on the corresponding link.

As for films in the other oscar categories, I am a bit behind in comparison to previous years. I have only been able to watch nocturnal animals + 13 hours. Regardless, you can bet I will be snuggled up on the couch this sunday for the big show… and the red carpet 🙂

What was your favorite nominated film this year? Do you too, watch the academy awards?
