A quick vegas getaway to reset + rest the system… with a side of sunshine, sleeping in, sparkle + just a bit of sadness.

Our weekend trip to the oasis of the las vegas strip came + went but it truly was exactly what we both needed. This was ryan + I’s first trip away since having blake + the first vacation we’ve taken together in over a year. Ryan + I were hesitant and unsure of what to expect after last week’s brutal attack but did not want to let that horrible act define our time. I am sure most people visiting had similar thoughts but the city’s spirits were high + welcoming.

My list of wants + accomplishments were quite short… rest, relaxation + really good food. Ha, probably in that order too! After 4 months without a solid night’s sleep, I got a full 6 hours straight both nights. Each morning I woke feeling like I had slept for a week. I read the glass castle in bed each morning with a cup of coffee in hand; a treat beyond words which is a bit hilarious + sad all at the same time. Ryan + I got a prime spot at the pool each afternoon too. We soaked in the warm desert air between dips in the water to cool off. I took a nap, 2 days in a row before freshening up for dinner.

And as far as food goes, we did it up. There are so many amazing restaurants from top chefs across the globe, all within a few short blocks. It was almost hard to narrow down where to eat because I had quite the list of options going in. We ate delicious palella at jaleo, the freshest seafood + pasta at costa de mare, a killer margarita + tamale at mesa grill + drinks up and down cesear’s palace + the adjoining hotels. Oh and the icing on the cake was a pit-stop at in ‘n out burger on our way to the airport on saturday afternoon.

Everything I wanted in a quick getaway was achieved with our weekend in vegas. It reset my system + made me miss my little ones at home so very much.
