15 years ago today, my husband + I drove up to boulder, co to attend the dave matthews concert at folsom field. Ryan was wearing my favorite grey shirt with his puka shell necklace… very cool in 2001. It was a sunny and beautiful summer day. We were 17 and didn’t have a care in the world. As we walked up to the stadium, ryan pulled me off to the side and asked me to be his girlfriend. I tried my best to keep it cool but I was jumping up + down and freaking out on the inside. That day so many years ago, was the official beginning to our story… and what a story it has been.
(my favorite dave matthews song, performed in the rain at folsom field)
We have been through a lot in 15 years. Yet, it feels like only yesterday that we were in boulder listening to dave matthews jam-out in the pouring rain (the weather rolled in and the rain was insane). I knew there was something special about ryan from the moment we met initially in 7th grade. After our 11th grade science class, I re-confirmed those thoughts. We began dating right before our senior year + that magnetic connection has been with us since. We had a lot of growing up to do but somehow we were able to grow up but not apart. Even as we navigated our ways through separate colleges, started our 1st ‘real’ jobs, became adults + learned more about who we were as individuals, we were together.
Not many people can say they married to their high school sweethearts but I am one of the lucky few who can. I am proud of the relationship I have with my husband + I know, he is the love of my life. Years ago I found this quote from helen keller and it has always stuck with me. I found my egypt when I was 17 and everyday has been a blessing since. Happy anniversary!
Thanks for enduring this personal post today everyone. I will be back this week with some awesome new content… including a killer giveaway!
